Submenu module Allow you to have a special menu in chosen categories in the administration. For example if you have several large families in your site, you can have a submenu for each subfamily.
Simply select the families with the back office menu, that will generate a sub menu, it will apply either for all subfamilies, or for a limited number of lower level.
Note that if you select a sub-family and one of these sub-sub-menu family, sub-sub-family's menu will have priority over that the sub-family's menu in the category.
